Profile:
Dr. Arthur M. Michalek joined the staff of Roswell Park Cancer
Institute (RPCI) in 1980, as Cancer Research Scientist/Epidemiologist,
Department of Cancer Control & Epidemiology. In 1997,
he was appointed Chair of the Department of Educational Affairs
and Dean of the Roswell Park Graduate Division, University
at Buffalo. In 2002, Dr. Michalek was appointed Research Integrity
Officer. Dr. Michalek earned his doctoral degree in Epidemiology
at the University at Buffalo in 1980. He also is Chairman
& Professor, Interdisciplinary Program in Natural Sciences,
Roswell Park Graduate Division, University at Buffalo; Adjunct
Professor, School of Public Health, University of Massachusetts,
Amherst; and Adjunct Professor, School of Public Health, State
University of New York, Albany.
Research Interests:
Dr. Michalek's research interests focus on cancer education
/ evaluation; Molecular Epidemiology; cancer in Native Americans;
the HIV/AIDS Hotline; and the International Consortium for
Research on the Health Effects of Radiation - Ukraine (FSU).
Selected Publications:
Dr. Michalek has authored or co-authored more than 200 journal
publications, book chapters and abstracts. He also is a Reviewer
for the Annals of Epidemiology, Cancer, Cancer Practice, Epidemiology,
Health Education Quarterly, International Journal of Epidemiology,
Journal of Cancer Education (Editorial Board), Journal of
Family Practice, Medical Care, Preventive Medicine, and Tobacco
Control-An International Journal.
Professional Affiliations:
Dr. Michalek is a member of the New York State Academy of
Sciences, Society for Epidemiologic Research, American Association
for Cancer Education (Vice President; President-elect/2003),
Chair, Public Patient Education Committee), American College
of Epidemiology (member Ethics & Standards Committee),
National Cancer Institute (NCI) Network for Cancer Control
Research Among American Indian and Alaska Native Populations,
and the National Cancer Leadership Initiative for Native Americans.
Currently, he serves as an NCI Cancer Prevention Ad Hoc Reviewer
and on numerous committees at UB and RPCI. He is also an affiliate
in the following: Annals of Epidemiology, Cancer, Cancer Practice,
Epidemiology, Health Education Quarterly; International Journal
of Epidemiology; Journal of Cancer Education; Journal of Family
Practice; Medical Care; Preventive Medicine; Tobacco Control-An
International Journal.
