Advance your training in statistical theory, methods and applications.

You can pursue your specific areas of interest with your selection of elective courses and with a thesis option versus the master’s project requirement.

Students in the Biostatistics MA program will gain an advanced training in statistical theory, methods and applications, and have opportunities to work with faculty on methodological, theoretical and applied research topics. The degree provides training in statistical methods and applications, as well as bioinformatics and would be appropriate training for entry into a PhD program. Students will complete a practical training project.

Research Opportunities

You will have numerous opportunities to work closely with faculty members on methodological, theoretical and applied research projects. You will also work with departments and schools throughout the university, as well as our community partners, including Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Gynecological Oncology Group.

Career Opportunities

As a graduate, you will be prepared for pursuing a PhD degree or for direct entry into the workplace in a variety of positions, including as:

  • A collaborative researcher at health research institutes, government  agencies, international non-governmental organizations, pharmaceutical or health care companies
  • A consultant with contract research organizations or consulting firms

Our graduates are currently employed at Georgetown University Medical Center, University of Pittsburgh, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Baystate Medical Center, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and BlueCross BlueShield among others.
