Josh Barback

Josh Barback.

Psychology major Josh Barback enrolled in a statistics course to complement his focal study. Throughout the course, he also gained an appreciation for the subject and its real-world application.

“My first bachelor’s degree was in mathematics, so I really enjoy the theoretically challenging aspects of studying statistics,” he said. “On the other hand, it’s also rewarding to learn methods that can be applied in a variety of fields. Since statistics is an important part of behavioral research, psychology majors are expected to have a basic knowledge of statistical methods.”

After learning that he had already completed several courses that would count towards the 26-credit minor curriculum, Barback said it was an easy decision to apply to the program.

“The statistics minor has given me a much better understanding of the techniques that are routinely used in psychology, as well as an appreciation for the wide range of methods that are available to researchers,” he said.

Thanks to the statistics minor, he is confident that the coursework has made him a stronger candidate for graduate school.
