Media Advisory: “Grey’s Anatomy” actor Jesse Williams to speak at UB on Nov. 18

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- “Grey’s Anatomy” actor and activist Jesse Williams will appear at the University at Buffalo on Saturday, Nov. 18, as part of the Distinguished Speakers Series.

Williams, this year’s Undergraduate Student Choice Speaker, will speak at 7:30 p.m. in Alumni Arena, North Campus.

Williams, who plays Dr. Jackson Avery in ABC’s hit series “Grey’s Anatomy,” served as senior producer and correspondent for the EPIX docuseries “America Divided” and executive-produced the documentary “Stay Woke: The Black Lives Matter Movement,” which premiered in the summer of 2016.

He is founder of the production company farWord Inc. and executive producer of “Question Bridge: Black Males,” a series of transmedia art installations, films, a curriculum and website ( A former high school teacher, Williams is co-owner of Scholly, a mobile app that helps connect students to scholarships for which they’re eligible.

Williams’ lecture is sponsored by the undergraduate Student Association.

During the program, audio and/or video photography, as well as still photography, will be limited to the first five minutes of his lecture. Williams is expected to begin speaking at 7:40 p.m.
