With programs in epidemiology, environmental health and health services administration, the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health is dedicated to:

  • Research, teaching and service
  • Bringing together faculty, students and postdoctoral fellows with widely diverse backgrounds to engage in developing new ideas, methods and knowledge to improve the health of populations
  • Continuing the department’s long tradition of educating leaders who play key roles in the public health arena  

Our Mission

The mission of the department is to:

  • Conduct research in epidemiology, environmental health, health services administration, and preventive medicine that will contribute to improvements in population health status in our community, our nation and the world
  • Educate and develop scientists and practitioners for careers in epidemiology, environmental health, health services administration, preventive medicine, clinical research and public health
  • Utilize the expertise of the department for training in other departments in the School of Public Health and Health Professions and throughout the university
  • Serve the public health needs of our communities by applying our resources and expertise to implement best practices in public health education, disease prevention and health promotion
