The healthy and well-being of everyone in the School of Public Health and Health Professions community is our primary concern during this unusual and unprecedented time.

Please make sure you're following the best practices from the CDC for protecting yourself from the virus that causes COVID-19.

General Recommendations

  • Please keep devices updated with the latest UB software (VPN, security patches, etc.).
  • Sign up for UB Alerts to receive emergency notifications about urgent matters that affect the university.
  • For frequently asked questions, visit the UB COVID-19 Information site. It also has links to many helpful resources like the Centers for Disease Control, New York State Department of Health and the Erie County Department of Health.

Course instruction

  • Faculty and staff have moved all SPHHP classes into a distance-learning format and are maintaining all essential school operations.
  • If you are having course-specific issues, please be in touch with your faculty.
  • For students who might not have access to the internet at home, Spectrum is offering free WiFi to students at their homes.
  • UB has also expanded fast, secure wi-fi access on campus, including in the Parker parking lot on South Campus.  

Clinical/field placements

Many students have learned that their clinical or field placements have been suspended or canceled. Program directors for all affected programs are working to determine next steps. Please make sure you are in touch with your program's director or clinical coordinator.

If you're considering attending UB...

If you are considering or have been admitted to UB, please know that the university is open and fully functional.

  • All offices—Academic Services and Advising, Financial Aid, the Honors College, Admissions, etc.--are available to answer your questions.
  • UB has not finalized details regarding whether the the fall semester will take place in person or via distance learning, but we will keep you updated on any news.

Temporary Work Assignments

By direction from the NYS Governor’s office, effective March 17, 2020, and until further notice, all non-essential SUNY employees shall be assigned to perform their work-related duties and responsibilities from alternate work locations, via telecommuting. This affects many, but not all, of our faculty and staff.

All SPHHP faculty and staff should consult with their supervisors, and submit a completed Temporary Work Assignment/Location Plan form if they are requesting to work remotely for any portion of their time.

SPHHP IT Support for Faculty and Staff

To request SPHHP IT support

Please use the SPHHP IT ticket system for all faculty and staff computer related support requests. Be as detailed as possible and share if you are on campus or off campus.

To access HUB from off-campus

  • Start and run Cisco Anyconnect (You cannot use Fortinet at this time)
  • In the first window, make sure vpn.buffalo.edu is entered; click "Connect"
  • In the next window, select 2Step-AdminVPN-OffCampus
  • Log in with your UB username and password; click "OK"
  • Answer the DUO box with a "1" to push (or use the other methods if you prefer them over the push)
