Overview

The Department of Social and Preventive Medicine trains students to become researchers and practitioners in epidemiology and public health.

Careers in epidemiology and public health reflect the diversity of the field. Graduates work in academia, national and international agencies, local and state health departments, pharmaceutical companies, healthcare organizations, and non-profit research institutions. Our graduates have pursued successful careers in these fields.

Applications

You can apply to our MS and PhD programs online.

Applications for the MPH program may be made using the national Schools of Public Health Application Service (SOPHAS) at https://portal.sophas.org/.

EXCEPTION: If you are only applying to the University at Buffalo, please contact mwoppere@buffalo.edu for detailed instructions. Be sure to have your test scores (GRE and TOEFL) sent to the following codes: University 2925, Department 0606.

Admission requirements vary from program to program. For detailed information see the Application Information page for the MS, PhD and MPH programs.

We are particularly interested in students who are curious, able to think critically and are motivated by desire to improve the world around them. While successful students in our department come from many backgrounds, most have a background in the biological or social sciences and mathematics.

Funding

Funding opportunities are available within the department of Social and Preventive Medicine and the University at Buffalo.
