My undergraduate degree is in a field other than occupational therapy. Can I still apply to the M.S. program?
The M.S. program offered at the University at Buffalo is a post-professional masters degree. This means that you must have a bachelor's degree in occupational therapy in order to apply.
How long will it take me to complete the program?
The program of study normally takes two academic years to complete. Part-time options are available.
Can I complete the program through online, distance learning courses?
There are some courses that are offered as distance learning courses; however, it is not possible to complete the program entirely online.
What are the costs for tuition and fees?
Approximate costs, including tuition and fees, for full-time students for Spring 2008 are $4,144 per semester for New York State residents, and $6,154 per semester for non-residents. Approximate tuition for part-time students is $288 per credit hour for New York State residents, and $455 per credit hour for non-residents. The University recognizes NYS residency after 1 year. Is financial assistance available?
The Occupational Therapy program has limited financial assistance opportunities available for full-time graduate students, including graduate and teaching assistantships and tuition scholarships. Some full-time students receive financial assistance that ranges from $9000, plus a tuition scholarship, up to $14,000. Work assignments include teaching in the undergraduate programs, assistance with faculty research, and clinical work in assistive technology or pediatrics.
What needs to be submitted as part of the application process?
The following materials must be submitted:
- Evidence of completion of a baccalaureate degree with a major in occupational therapy
- Transcripts from all colleges attended
- GRE scores
- Three professional references on UB Reference Form
- Completed on-line application
- Application fee (payable on line)
- TOEFL scores (international students only)
- International Financial Form (international students only)
What do I need to score on the GRE?
Students are required to take the GRE; however, their scores are reviewed as part of their overall credentials rather than a single, specific score.
Who should I use as a reference?
References should be persons who are familiar with your strength and abilities as an occupational therapist and/or academic potential. These should be professional, not personal (i.e. friends, family) references.
