Assistive and Rehabilitation Technology

Curriculum

The Advanced Graduate Certificate Program in Assistive and Rehabilitation Technology shares the education, research, and public service mission of the School of Public Health and Health Professions. Our program emphasizes a dynamic, problem-based approach to learning through classroom projects, community involvement, and exposure to current research literature. The curriculum provides students with a program of coursework that integrates technology interventions to educational, vocational and independent living environments for persons with disabilities. Those who take these courses will be poised to assume roles as advanced clinical practitioners in AT and/or participate in research projects that advance the knowledge base of the field.

Students who are interested in pursuing graduate education that emphasizes assistive and rehabilitation technology have four paths that they can pursue at UB.

  1. Those interested in the Advanced Graduate Certificate Program are required to complete four, 3-credit courses from among the following:
  2. Students who are pursuing the Ph.D. degree in Rehabilitation Science or the MS degree in Occupational Therapy may take one or more of these courses as electives and pursue research in an AT area related to their professional interest.
  3. Students who are pursuing graduate degrees in engineering, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, special education, or other related discipline are encouraged to take one or more of our courses as electives to their degree program.
  4. Working professionals may enroll in individual courses on a non-matriculating basis with the consent of the Program Director.

All courses are 3-credit graduate courses that are oriented to the needs of practitioners and clinical researchers. Courses typically meet once per week throughout the academic semester. Classes are typically scheduled from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Mondays-Thursdays.
