Frequently Asked Questions

Promotion to Professional Sequence

Q: I am currently a UB student; do I still need to submit my UB transcripts to your department?
A: No. Students should submit transcripts only for courses not articulated on their Academic Advising Report (AAR).

Q: When can I expect to find out if I've been accepted to the upper level of the occupational therapy program?
A: Applications are due on Jan. 12. They are processed and then reviewed by the Admissions Committee. Notification of admission status will occur by early March.

Q: Can I still submit my application even if I've missed the deadline?
A: Extension of the deadline is considered on an individual case-by-case basis. Please contact MaryAnn Venezia at venezia3@buffalo.edu for further information.

Q: Is there a waiting list for students who apply?
A: Yes, there is an alternate list. Applicants will be notified as seats become available.

Q: How do I specify if I am enrolled for prerequisite courses this semester versus missing a course (not enrolled) but I plan to take it in a future semester?
A: If you are registered for a course in the current spring semester, please use the "E" grade for "enrolled." If you will not complete the prerequisites by the end of the spring semester, you are not eligible to apply at this time.

Q: If I earn an "F" in a prerequisite course but I am retaking the course, will the "F" be calculated into my prerequisite GPA?
A: University policy states that the grade earned the second time a course is taken is used in the calculation. The GPA for the occupational therapy prerequisites follows this policy. If you are retaking the course, use the "E" grade as described above.

Q: How do I fill out the form if my AAR shows that I have AP credit for a prerequisite course?
A: Please enter "AP credit" under "Course Number" and for grades, select P3, P4 or P5.
