In 1995 he was elected member of the American Epidemiological Society. In 1999 he received the University at Buffalo Stockton Kimball Award for Research and in 2002 the SUNY Chancellor's Research Recognition Award.
Research Interests
My research interests are epidemiology and the prevention of chronic diseases (cardiovascular disease in particular) with a focus on lifestyle habits and metabolic conditions. Currently I am involved in the Women's Health Initiative (a multicenter trial aimed at testing preventive strategies in postmenopausal women) in a series of studies exploring the relationship between infection and cardiovascular disease. I am also involved in studies exploring the impact of alcohol consumption and drinking pattern and health outcomes and investigations on the development of atherosclerosis (through non-invasive methods) in childhood, with a special focus on the role of family history, obesity and metabolic factors.
