2006 MPH Welcome Luncheon and Program

On Friday, September 1st, 2006, the School of Public Health and Health Professions hosted a luncheon and program for new and returning Master of Public Health students. Dean Dr. Maurizio Trevisan warmly welcomed the students and commented on the promising future in the field of public health. Dr. Donald Rowe facilitated perspectives from two panels, employers and alumnae from the School of Public Health and Health Professions. Dr. Dennis Bertram acknowledged that “a major objective of the luncheon was to begin to shape a career vision for the students. By engaging both employers and alumnae, we hope that the students will receive a vision of career opportunities available in public health.”

The employer panel included Mr. Dennis Horrigan, President and CEO, Catholic IPA, Ms. Gretchen Leffler, Regional Vice President, American Cancer Society, Dr. Gary Ogden, Public Health Director, Allegany County Department of Health and Mr. Salvatore Page, Associate Commissioner Western Regional Office, New York State Department of Health. Two alumnae, Ms. Jackie Andula, RN, MPH ’03 and Ms. Bethany Gilbert, MPH/JD ’05, shared their journeys in public health and witnessed how their MPH degrees have served them in their profession. Students also heard from current MPH/JD student, Anna Falicov, regarding the upcoming American Public Health Association Annual Meeting in Boston.
