Plotter

A Hewlett Packard plotter is available to SPHHP departments, research centers, and other entities. The following "questions and answers" explain how to set up a plotter account, how to access the plotter, plotter capabilities, usage costs, and other issues.

What is a Plotter Good For? [top]

  • Conference Presentations (overlapping two 6'x3' sheets produces the standard size 6'x4')

Who Can Use the Plotter? [top]

Only designated representatives from participating SPHHP Departments and Research Centers; the School of Nursing and other entities can use the plotter.  Each participating entity identifies 1-3 people to run the plotter.  After you create your plot, you should work directly with your representative.

Here is the current list of representatives along with their affiliation and contact information:

Will Someone Help Me Create my Poster (or other) Presentations? [top]

  • At this time, PowerPoint is used to create almost all plots. Please see your representative for assistance to create these plots.

Note: At this time, only PowerPoint (by far the most common format) and Adobe PDF will be demonstrated for plotter usage.

Will Someone Help Me Run The Plotter? [top]

You cannot run the plotter.  Only your representative has the appropriate account permissions.  Plotter usage has sky rocketed in the last year.  While this is great news, Michelle Tipps-Ankrah (829-3434 x286, Kimball 435 mlt4@buffalo.edu) must be contacted one week before finish date to ensure that the plotter is available.  Failure to call ahead may prevent usage of the plotter.

Michelle Tipps-Ankrah (829-3434 x286, Kimball 435 mlt4@buffalo.edu) will demonstrate the use of the Plotter once or twice to representatives of each participating entity.

Keith Conroy (829-3141 x149, Kimball 334 krconroy@buffalo.edu) will maintain the system and troubleshoot any technical issues that arise.

Note: Each participating department, research center, etc should select one or two individuals (perhaps student assistants) to learn how to use the plotter. These individuals would then be responsible for advising your faculty and staff on plotter usage.

What Kind of Paper is Available? [top]

How Much Does It Cost? [top]

  • Draft (Matte) $1.50 per square foot
  • Great (Gloss) $2.00 per square foot

Note #1: Draft plots must be counted toward square footage costs because paper and ink used to create these pages must still be replenished.

Note #2: Plots with a solid (near solid) background color are charged at a slightly higher rate to cover ink costs.

Is This A Good Deal? [top]

  • Yes - UB Media Services charges $5.00 per square foot, Kinko's charges $15.00 per square foot

Will Plotter Policy Ever Change? [top]

  • Usage (costs, supervision, pricing and user feedback) will be periodically reviewed.
  • Usage policy may be modified to better meet participant and supervision needs.
  • We reserve the right to adjust pricing to reflect changing and/or unanticipated costs. Current clients of the service will be notified of any pricing changes.
  • Clients can always take unused money out of the fund (losing access to the plotter).
