Many information technology resources and services are available to faculty, staff and students in the School of Public Health and Health Professions. These resources support the research, academic, service and administrative activities of the School. Many of these resources are free!

- Poster Plotter
[Documentation] - Information on the School's poster plotter located in Room 328 Kimball Tower. Each department has a representative that is trained to assist with printing posters. Please see the documentation for more details. - High Speed Scanner
The School has a Canon DR-5080C color scanner located in 328 Kimball Tower that is capable of scanning 75 pages per minute and hold up to 500 sheets at a time. The scanning resolution is 400 x 400 dpi max and is able to utilize Simplex or Duplex modes. Feel free to use the scanner when needed.

Access [top]
[Documentation] - "1-877-305-4309 has been established to provide remote access to the University's modem pool from locations outside of the 716 calling area. For billing and security purposes, a Personal Identification Number (PIN) is required in order to use this new service. Charges for these calls will be billed back to the caller's University account. The rate charged for calls made from outside New York State will be $0.06 per minute and $0.07 per minute within NewYork State. [Documentation] - UB provides over 1000 high speed modems allowing students, faculty and staff to access campus resources via the Internet. These numbers provide access to the University's modem pool from locations inside of the 716 calling area. [Documentation and Downloads (Windows XP)], - "creates a secure, encrypted tunnel [via cable modem, digital service line, phone modem connection ] from your computer to the campus network. With the VPN client you can send email, use any library database, and connect to other campus resources just as if you were on campus! And because it's encrypted, your password and other private data pass from your computer to the campus safe from prying eyes."

The BIWI allows instructors to manage their online course life from semester to semester. The BIWI lists the courses you are teaching along with the registration number for a given semester. [Documentation and Downloads] - the Citrix Client sets up a Windows NT environment on the user's Windows, Macintosh, UNIX or Linux computer. The Citrix Client allows the user to access a wide array of Windows based applications, public site printers and UNIX home directories. Firewalls act as a gatekeeper between your network and other networks on the Internet. Firewalls let you control the type of communication (email, ftp, logins, etc) between your computer to and from "the world." Up to date firewall software is critical to maintain the security of your personal computer if it is connected to the Internet via a cable modem or digital service line.
