University-wide IT Policies
The University at Buffalo has currently updated its Information Technology Policies which states "These rules clarify the process of saving, retrieving, and producing electronically stored information in anticipation of and during litigation". Please review your rights and responsibilities as a responsible user here at the University. Below are the most prevalent violations to avoid:
- Sharing UBIT name and password - Never share your password with anyone and never use another user's password
- Chain emails and hoaxes - Never pass on a known hoax or chain email
- Harassment - "Communication targeted at a specific individual with the intent to harass or threaten is a violation of UB policy"
- Forgery - Do not impersonate another user or alter devices to change your identity
- Tapping Phones or Network - "Sniffers" are considered tapping and should never be used
- Email bombing - Sending out emails for the purpose of disrupting a network or overwhelming a user's email program is a violation
