UB and Dell PC Agreement
UB and Dell have come to terms on a PC purchasing contract where the entire University can now purchase Dell PC's at a discounted rate. Here are some of the details:
- DELL will be sending a representative to UB for one (1) to two (2) weeks to work on UB-specific images
- Base image would include OS, office, browser, VPN, anti-virus, etc. (software common to all machines)
- All orders for the contract configurations would go through UBMicro (login required)
- Specs on each contract machine include:
- Desktop pricing would be roughly $500 less than current bulk pricing available through the university
- Standard laptop (D630) would run about $1300
- Lightweight laptop (D420) would run about $1600
- Pricing includes warranty support for the entire expected life of the machines (4 years for desktops; 3 years for laptops)
- Standard warranty support
- Most upgrades would be available to be added onto the base systems (start at discounted price – but pay standard upgrade pricing) – with possible exception of processor)
- Pricing includes recycling the PC at end-of-life – in compliance with university policies (i.e. disk wipes, etc.) – would receive a credit for the residual value of the machine (which would likely be small)
