One month, 16 million steps. That is the goal of the University at Buffalo School of Public Health and Health Professions 2016 Step Challenge.
The Challenge, which will take place throughout the entire month of April, is part of the University at Buffalo’s celebration of National Public Health Week. The national campaign serves as a time to recognize the contributions of public health important to improving the nation.
The 2016 Step Challenge is free and open for all to participate. Registrants may sign up individually or as a team and will be asked to log their step count once a week to help track progress towards the collective goal of reaching 16 million steps during the month of April.
A number of prizes will be awarded, including an iPad Mini, 2 Fitbits, gift cards, and school apparel. A social media contest will also take place throughout the challenge. Social media users are encouraged to post pictures actively contributing to the challenge goal using the hashtag #UBsteps16.
“The Challenge will be a great way to unite the university and greater community in a way that promotes healthy activity while increasing individual efforts towards living a healthy lifestyle,” says Dr. Jean Wactawski-Wende, dean of the University at Buffalo.
