Mike Redfern, MBA, MEd, serves as the associate dean and chief operating and financial officer (COO/CFO) of the UB School of Public Health and Health Professions. As COO, he is responsible for directing and overseeing the school's daily business operations. In this role he also serves as chief of staff for the Dean's office, which specific oversight of staff and operations within finance, space planning and facilities management, technology services, communication and alumni relations, and general operations of the school. As CFO, he is responsible for all the financial functions administered by the school, as well as oversight of the activities performed by those departments and organizations which it serves. In both COO and CFO roles, he works to support business and financial operations with an emphasis on long-term forecasting, developing efficiencies, and ensuring resources for new initiatives and growth.

Mike has been with UB since 2003 and has worked in or overseen academic affairs, student affairs, information technology, facilities, research administration, human resources, and finance. His most recent position prior to joining the School of Public Health and Health Professions was with the UB School of Nursing where he held the position of associate dean for administrative services and chief financial officer.

Mike holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and master’s degrees in higher education administration, and business administration. He also has formal training in strategic planning, managerial analysis, project management, process improvement and change management.

Prior to and during college, Mike served honorably with the US Army (1994-1997, field artillery) and New York State National Guard (1997-2002, infantry).
