UB is establishing three new Communities of Excellence that will harness the strengths of faculty from disciplines across the university to confront grand challenges facing humankind.


UB graduate student Michael Healy spent the summer in India, where he worked on two major projects that will employ new technologies to screen for oral and cervical cancers in high-risk populations.


Arthur Goshin, BS ’66 & MD ’70, gets things done. He spent the summer before starting medical school in Springfield, Mass., surveying the health of 400 families relocated by an urban renewal project with a physician who was later a celebrated New York City health commissioner.


The School of Public Health and Health Professions has established a Division of Environmental Health Sciences and appointed James R. Olson, professor of pharmacology and toxicology in the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, as director.
