Apply online to the PhD program. The online application is fast, easy and secure. A $50 non-refundable fee is required.

Deadline

We accept applications year-round on a rolling basis. If you’d like to be considered for an assistantship, apply by March 15.

Requirements

Applicants to the PhD program are expected to have an MS degree in nutrition or a related field from an accredited college or university. Students with a BS degree who wish to enter our PhD program should apply to the MS in nutrition science program. A bypass of the MS degree into the PhD program may be possible based on academic performance and research potential observed during the first academic year.  

A minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of coursework.

GRE scores; however, there is no minimum score. The results are used to evaluate your potential. Note: The MCAT or any other standardized test may not be used as a substitute for the GRE. 

Supplemental Materials

Before you submit your application, ensure that you have all of the supplemental materials ready.

  • Contact a faculty member in your area of interest to arrange an in-person or phone interview.
  • Secure two recommendation forms from individuals who have worked closely with you and have considerable knowledge of your academic performance.
  • Request that your official transcripts from each college or university you have attended are sent to the department.
  • Request that your GRE scores are sent to the department.
    When requesting your GRE scores, use these reporting codes: Institution 2925; Department 0214
  • Include a statement of career objectives and plans listing your area of concentration and research interests. This section is very important in the application process; complete with as much detail as possible.
  • Include an assistantship qualification statement, if applicable. This should include any special skills, previous teaching/laboratory experience, research experience, etc.
