Is a master’s degree required for entry into the PhD program?

No. Our students enter the program with a variety of educational and professional experiences.

International Requirements

Do I need to take the TOEFL test?

All international applicants (unless exempted) must demonstrate proficiency in the English language by submitting official test scores from TOEFL. Minimum scores are: 213 for computer-based tests; 550 for the paper test and 79 for the IBT test (Reading: 19, Listening: 15, Speaking: 19, Writing: 19).

Can I apply even if my TOEFL score is low?

Yes. International students with TOEFL scores below the minimum may be admitted on a conditional basis.

Application

What should I do to prepare for applying?

Review faculty research interests to identify your faculty mentor. Select a faculty member in your area of interest and arrange an in-person or phone interview.

When is the application deadline and how long before I can expect a reply?

For domestic students, we accept applications year-round on a rolling basis. If you’d like to be considered for a graduate assistantship, apply by March 15.

International admissions deadlines are:

  • March 1 to be considered for fall semester
  • Aug. 15 to be considered for spring semester

Is financial assistance available?
