What to Do Now

Your first step is to apply to UB early in the fall of your senior year of high school. To be considered for a merit scholarship, apply by Dec. 1 and provide supporting documents (test scores, transcripts and letters of recommendation) by Dec. 31.

Applying to UB online is fast, easy and secure. Choose the Common Application or the State University of New York (SUNY) application. A $50 non-refundable fee is required with each option.

What to Do During Your Freshman and Sophomore Years

Complete the prerequisite courses and general education requirements in your first two years of the program.

Schedule An Advising Appointment

Schedule an appointment with an advisor from the Office of Academic and Student Affairs (OASA) each semester at sphhp-oasa@buffalo.edu or 716-829-5000.

What to Do in January of Your Sophomore Year

General Exercise Science Track

Submit a Promotion to Professional Sequence application by Friday of the second week of the spring semester. You’ll need a minimum GPA of 2.5 in your prerequisite courses to advance. The Promotion to Professional Sequence is competitive and is limited to the top 120 students based on performance in prerequisite courses.

 

Pre-Physical Therapy Track

This concentration is the entry point for applying to the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program.

Submit a Promotion to Professional Sequence application by Friday of the second week of the spring semester. You’ll need a minimum GPA of 3.0 in your prerequisite courses to advance. The Promotion to Professional Sequence is competitive and is limited to the top 120 students based on performance in prerequisite courses.

After acceptance, complete one year of the professional sequence.

In your junior year, submit an online application to the DPT program by the Nov. 1 deadline. Once accepted, you’ll have three additional years of graduate study to complete the program.

You will also have the option to complete your bachelor’s degree in exercise science and apply to the DPT program in your senior year of the exercise science program.

Transfer Student Admissions Criteria

As a transfer student, your first step is to apply online to the University at Buffalo.

You’ll next submit an application for the Promotion to Professional Sequence once you complete your prerequisite courses. To begin classes in the first summer session, your UB application should be submitted by Jan. 15 and your Promotion to Professional Sequence application by Friday of the second week of the spring semester. You will also need to request that copies of all of your official transcripts be sent to UB’s Office of Admissions.

A course MUST be articulated through UB to be used as a prerequisite on your PPS Application. Refer to taurus.buffalo.edu for more information on courses at other schools that are equivalent to UB courses. Contact the Office for Academic and Student Affairs (OASA) to ensure that prerequisite courses taken at other colleges or universities satisfy program prerequisites: 716-829-5000 or sphhp-oasa@buffalo.edu.

Registration in Exercise Science Courses for Non-Majors

Exercise science courses are open to students who have declared and been accepted in the major. If you are a student from another UB program, you may petition for permission to register for two exercise science courses. Submit a petition to sphhp-ens-undergrad@buffalo.edu including the following items at least one week prior to the registration deadline:

  • Written proof of being an accepted major in a recognized university department/program. If you are a special major, submit a copy of your program as approved by your advisor.
  • A brief rationale for the course(s) in which you would like to enroll.
  • Written permission from the course instructor.
