Admissions

Your first step will be to apply to UB as an undergraduate. Submit an online application early in the fall of your senior year of high school for fall semester admission. In your freshman and sophomore years of the program, you’ll complete the BS program’s prerequisite courses.

You’ll then apply to the professional sequence of the undergraduate exercise science program in January of your sophomore year and indicate that you are also applying for admission into the BS/MPH program. The admission standard is higher for the BS/MPH program and you will need to have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0. The Promotion to Professional Sequence is competitive and is limited to the top 120 students based on performance in prerequisite courses.

Additionally, you will need to complete the GRE examination—an admission requirement for the MPH portion of the program—and achieve a 50th percentile or better on each section.

Admissions for University Honors College Students

If you are a student in good standing with the University Honors College, you have the option of applying to the BS/MPH program at the beginning of your first (freshman) year of college. You will need to indicate in your personal statement of your UB application that you also are applying for admission into the BS/MPH program. The personal statement will be reviewed for an exceptional level of motivation and interest in pursuing the combined BS/MPH degree program.

The standards for admission are higher for this option. The minimum GPA required for admission to graduate school is an undergraduate GPA of 3.0. You must meet all admission requirements of the University Honors College—which includes presenting an unweighted high school average of 93 and a combined SAT critical reading and math score of 1300 or ACT score of 29—and the exercise science program.

You are not required to take the GRE exam with this option.

If you are not accepted into the combined program, you may re-apply as a sophomore.

Retention

Once admitted to the BS/MPH program, you will be required to maintain the following standards. If you do not, you cannot continue in the combined BS/MPH degree program, but can continue in the BS degree program.

If you applied to the program in your sophomore year or later, you will be required to maintain a GPA of 3.0 while in the undergraduate portion of the program.

If you applied to the program at the beginning of your freshman year, you will be required to remain in good standing with the University Honors College which includes maintaining a 3.2 GPA during your first year and at least a 3.5 GPA in each successive year to graduate with an overall GPA of 3.5.

All students in the BS/MPH program will be required to receive a grade of “B” or better in the following required graduate epidemiology classes:

  • EEH 501 Epidemiology Principles
  • EEH 502 Advanced Methodology
