Julie Marcotte Leonard is living her dream as the owner of an in-home personal training business.
It all began when she started swimming competitively at age 10, and grew interested in health, fitness and wellness. As swimming became a bigger part of her life, so did her curiosity about the human body and physiology. “It was clear to me at a young age that exercise and nutrition sciences were my passion, and that I needed to pursue a career in a field where I could help others become healthier.
“I decided to attend UB’s School of Public Health and Health Professions because of the reputation of the exercise and nutrition sciences program,” said Leonard. “The program offered everything I was looking for, from great courses to hands-on laboratories. I also got a scholarship to swim at the University at Buffalo, and knew I would have the opportunity to continue my education with the master’s program in exercise science.”
“I learned so much at UB and am very grateful for the opportunity I had to study with knowledgeable and outstanding professors,” she said. “I think that the style of teaching, the encouragement from the professors and the hands-on experiences helped me become the professional that I am today.”
As the owner of Personal Indulgence Fitness in Chicago, Leonard provides services ranging from tailored one-on-one personal training to all types of group fitness classes. “We perform fitness assessments including body fat percentage, core strength and stability, posture, muscle imbalances, and flexibility,” she said. “I believe that everyone has the right and the ability to live a happy, healthy lifestyle. Educating and teaching people about the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle is my priority.”
