Abstract: This work uses data from the population-based Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) longitudinal cohort study of aging African American and Caucasian men and women to study the association between vitamin D status and prevalent diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). This project will also investigate, for the first time, the association between vitamin D status and the incidence or progression of AMD.
