EEH 535 Evidence Based Decision Making in Health Services

3 Credits, Fall Semester

Prerequisite: EEH 501

This course is designed to provide students with a foundation in the various research methodologies employed in health services research. Emphasis is placed on applied research skills pertinent to health services administration. The course will expose students to the importance of the research question, strengths and limitations of various study designs, measurement issues, analytic approaches, outcomes, and the ethical conduct of research. While this courses builds upon the epidemiologic model it is distinct in that the focus is on applying the research method to arriving at effective decision making in the health services. Students will review, and critically analyze research designs to better understand how data are gathered and analyzed to arrive at objective, evidence based decisions. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking in design of research studies and evaluation of the published literature.
