After earning a master’s degree in geography from UB, Joseph Green chose to pursue a PhD with the multidisciplinary training in cancer epidemiology to prepare for his future as a researcher. His reasons were also quite personal.
“My family, like many others, has been greatly impacted by cancer,” said Green. “Better understanding the potential risk factors and mechanisms associated with the development of the disease would be professionally engaging and personally rewarding.”
In addition to the university’s strong reputation, Green said the faculty’s accessibility and the quality of research conducted here were deciding factors in choosing to continue his education at UB.
“I enjoy having the ability to draw on my academic background to pursue my research interests, and to collaborate with faculty members and students to address complex questions,” he said.
Green’s research focus is in the role of environmental exposures on cancer outcomes.
