Nutrition and Health Research Laboratory
This 900-ft2 laboratory, located in 62 Farber Hall, is comprised of a fully-equipped, commercial-grade kitchen, group dining area, a separate examination and phlebotomy room, laundry room, dry-food storage room and staff office. It is easily accessible via public transportation (bus and metro) and private vehicle. The examination room is suitable for the medical screening and anthropometric measurement of research volunteers, conducting fasting blood draws, and for longer-term blood collection protocols, such as oral glucose tolerance tests and insulin sensitivity tests. The metabolic kitchen houses the equipment and commercial-grade appliances needed to conduct controlled-feeding studies, including refrigerators and freezers, a six-burner gas stove with oven, warming oven, rolling bun rack, three microwave ovens, a high-temperature dishwasher, two analytical balances, and two double stainless-steel sinks. The dining area contains four tables separated by room dividers, a built-in coffee maker and a glass-front refrigerator. Additional food storage space and three non-commercial grade refrigerators are located in 47 Farber Hall.
