Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What does this degree lead to?

A. The degree prepares you for admission to most advanced health degrees such as medicine, physician assistant, and doctor of chiropractic medicine. It also prepares you for further study at the PhD level. In addition, the BS portion is an excellent applied health degree with numerous certifications available. The addition of the MS in Nutrition portion of the degree prepares the student for positions as nutrition professionals in certain industry. Please be advised that this does not lead to Registered Dietitian (R.D.) licensure or allow you to practice as an R.D.

Q. When can I apply?

A. The only time you can apply to the BS/MS program is during your first year in the Professional Sequence as a BS student in the Exercise Science - Nutrition Concentration. Applications must be submitted via GRADMIT by December 1st.

Q. When I fill out the application it asks for areas of research –what do I write down?

A. You do not need to choose an area of research unless you choose the thesis option. Discuss your interests with the faculty member you have chosen as a mentor, if you decide to complete the thesis option.

Q. If I choose the thesis option, when do I start doing research with my major professor?

A. You can start in your junior year, but most students make arrangements with the professor during the 4th year and start in the summer before the 5th yr. The best way to find who you want to work with is to talk to senior students, read about the research done by the professors and then set up meetings with them.
