Exercise Science BS
Application Information
Admission Procedures
Students interested in BS programs in general ES, exercise nutrition, pre-physical therapy or the combined BS/MS programs in Athletic Training and Exercise Nutrition are automatically accepted into the lower division of the Exercise Science major upon gaining admission to the University at Buffalo. At the time of acceptance students will indicate their preferred program and begin to take prerequisite courses. This does not guarantee promotion to the upper division.
BS Program: In the spring of the sophomore year, students interested in continuing in the BS program, OR entering the pre-PT concentration, must submit a Promotion to Professional Sequence Form (Click Here for the On-line Application). These forms are due by the last Friday in January. Students with a prerequisite GPA of 2.5 are eligible to advance to the professional sequence of courses, beginning with ANA 407, Gross Human Anatomy in the summer session. Students are encouraged to contact the department for advisement before filling out the PPS form. Promotion to professional sequence is competitive and limited to 120 students.
Pre-Physical Therapy:The ES program is the entry point for the Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Any student with a prerequisite GPA of 2.8 or better and grades of C or better in prerequisite courses is eligible for the pre-PT concentration. Be reminded, the minimum prerequisite GPA to be eligible for the DPT program (which includes the 1st year of the ES program) is 3.0. Students complete the first year of the ES program but apply for the DPT in the fall semester (Click Here for the On-line DPT Application).
BS/MS Programs: In the spring of the sophomore year, students interested in continuing in the combined BS/MS in ES/Nutrition must submit an on-line application. Students with a prerequisite GPA of 2.8 or better and grades of C or better in prerequisite courses are eligible. Click here for the ES/Nutrition application. Students are encouraged to contact the department for advisement before filling out the application form.
Transfer Students Admission Criteria
Transfer students must first submit an application to the University at Buffalo (click here for a UB application) as well as apply directly to the ES program. In order to begin classes in the 1st summer session, UB applications should be received by January 15 and ES applications by February 15. Applicants must request that one copy of all official transcripts be sent from each previous college to the Office of Admissions.
All transfer students are encouraged to contact the Undergraduate Advisor's office for the Program in Exercise Science to assure that prerequisite courses taken at other colleges or universities satisfy program prerequisites. Telephone (716) 829-2941 ext. 261.
