Dietetic Internship

Curriculum

Clinical Assessment (Fall)

Supervised Practice

  • Clinical Orientation (2 weeks)
  • Acute Care: 7 weeks
  • Long Term Care: 4 weeks
  • Specialty Care:
    • Outpatient Dialysis Center: 1 week
    • CHOB/Outpatient Clinics: 1 week
    • Niagara Family Health Center (Physical Assessment practice): 1 day

(Total Hours: 312; practice consists of 4 days per week at 6 hours/day)

Didactic

  • Focus: Topics in Domain I and Domain II and related topics
  • Practice Exam for Domains I and II

Graduate Courses

Food Service and Management (Spring)

Supervised Practice

  • Food Service and Management Orientation: 2 weeks
  • Institutional Food Service: 4 weeks
  • Community Food Service: 6 weeks
  • Specialty Care:
    • People Inc.: 1 week
    • RPCI: 1 week
    • Nutrition Support/ECMC: 1 week
    • CNM: 1 week

Didactic

  • Focus: Topics in Domain IV and Domain V and related topics
  • Practice Exam for Domains IV and V

Graduate Courses

Nutrition and Community Wellness, Research (Summer)

Supervised Practice

  • Community Programs:
    • WIC: 1 week
    • Schofield (long term home health care): 1 week
    • NTR 524 Project: 1 week
  • Community Wellness: 9 weeks
  • Research: 9 week
  • Specialty Rotation: 1 week

(Total Hours: 448; practice consists of 5 days per week at 8 hours per day; includes 3 days per week for community wellness and 2 days per week for research)

Didactic

  • Focus: Topics in Domain III, related topics, community nutrition topics found throughout the other domains and community wellness (public health, social and preventive medicine) topics
  • Practice Exam for Domain III
