Advisement

Any student who meets the minimal requirements for admission into the University at Buffalo is qualified to enter the undergraduate Exercise Science program and take prerequisite courses. Completion of the prerequisite sequence normally takes 4 semesters, at which time each student undergoes an academic review (see below). Students meeting the minimum requirements for a specific program are allowed to advance to the Professional Sequence of courses.

Undergraduate Advisement

To learn more about different tracks in general exercise science, exercise nutrition or pre-physical therapy, please contact the Office for Academic and Student Affairs (OASA) (716-829-3434 x287 or x410). The main thrust of advisement is directed toward ensuring that pre-major individuals are taking the proper prerequisites and are maintaining an appropriate grade point average.

Promotion to Professional Sequence

Students are admitted to the professional sequence of courses after completing all prerequisite courses. Those wishing to continue in the BS program OR in pre-physical therapy must submit a Promotion to Professional Sequence Form. These forms are due January 31. Help is available to assist students in preparing and submitting their application materials to the admissions committee. For assistance, please contact either the Office for Academic and Student Affairs (OASA) (716-829-3434 x287 or x410) or the Clinical Office (Dr. Carol DeNysschen 829-2941 ext 261 or Mary Dedrick 829-2941 ext 238).

Professional and Internship Advisement:

After admission into the professional programs, student academic advisement is mainly an audit process. In the Exercise Science Program, the Clinical Office (Dr. Carol DeNysschen 829-2941 ext 261 and Mary Dedrick 829-2941 ext 238) advises students and processes the appropriate forms for graduation from the program. The Internship Co-ordinators, Dr. Carol DeNysschen (829-2941 ext.261) and Mary Dedrick (ext. 238), counsel students regarding the selection/ application process for fulfilling the internship requirement.

Advisement for Combined BS/MS Programs:

Students interested in the combined BS/MS program must submit an on-line application before December 1st for the BS/MS in Exercise Nutrition (EXER NTR online application).
