The research of Sarahmona Przybyla, assistant professor in the Department of Community Health and Health Behavior, was recently announced as one of the most popular articles of 2017 in the Friday Letter - a weekly publication of the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH).

Sarahmona received the honor in the category of Faculty and Staff Honors. The article titled, "University at Buffalo Faculty Receives Funding to Assess Knowledge and Attitudes Toward Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Among Future Health Professionals," summarized Przybyla's research to assess knowledge and attitudes toward an approach to HIV prevention called pre-exposure prophylaxis or PrEP.  In total, Przybyla's research was featured in the Friday Letter on three occasions in 2017.

Przybyla is a public health interventionist with training in HIV/STI prevention, substance use, and mixed methods research. She completed a NIH predoctoral fellowship in HIV/STD prevention at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a postdoctoral fellowship in alcohol etiology and treatment at the Research Institute on Addictions before joining the faculty at UB.

Przybyla teaches a course in high-risk sexual behavior (CHB 500). Her methodological focus is on the use of quantitative and qualitative studies to support the development, implementation and evaluation of health behavior interventions. She is the principal investigator on a project that examines alcohol, marijuana, and medication adherence among HIV-positive adults. She also serves as a co-investigator on a pilot study exploring Hepatitis C knowledge and treatment motivation among emergency room patients presenting with heroin use.
