Four faculty and staff members — all women — are taking on new leadership roles in the School of Public Health and Health Professions, Jean Wactawski-Wende, the school’s dean, announced recently.

The organizational changes will support SPHHP’s “recent phenomenal growth” and will “help us meet our goal of becoming one of the best public health schools in the country,” Wactawski-Wende said.

“Our school’s evolution requires an organization that helps our educational, research and administrative activities operate as effectively and efficiently as possible. These moves, along with the faculty hires we’ve made recently, bring us closer to the infrastructure we need as we develop. And we’ll continue to make changes that will help us manage and take advantage of our exciting growth,” she added.

The appointments are as follows:

  • Kim Krytus, assistant dean and director of graduate public health programs. Krytus previously served as SPHHP’s director of master of public health (MPH) initiatives. In her new role, Krytus will oversee the MPH program, including curriculum, student services and program assessment, as well as the school’s accreditation with the Council on Education for Public Health. In addition, she will facilitate public health graduate student practice-based education and experiences, and will link graduate public health students to community partners.
  • Heather Orom, associate dean of equity, diversity and inclusion. Orom previously served as assistant dean for equity, diversity and inclusion. She is also an associate professor in the Department of Community Health and Health Behavior. In her new role, Orom will develop initiatives that promote a diverse student body and faculty, and that create an inclusive climate. She will also represent the school on university-wide diversity and inclusion initiatives, while engaging with community partners to promote health equity in Western New York.
  • Sarahmona Przybyla, assistant dean and director of undergraduate public health programs. Przybyla had served as SPHHP’s interim director of undergraduate public health programs since last April. She will manage the development and growth of the school’s BS in public health major, and the public health minor. In addition, she will support the increase in course offerings in the undergraduate public health program. These include a new course that will be offered beginning in the fall examining incarceration through the lens of public health.
  • Jillian Reading, assistant dean and director of student affairs. Reading previously served as SPHHP’s interim director of graduate recruitment and director of undergraduate recruitment and student services. As director of student affairs, Reading will work to meet enrollment and student-success goals, while overseeing academic and student services for several hundred first-year and transfer students. She will also oversee SPHHP’s graduate and undergraduate recruitment efforts. Reading has worked in the advising and student services world for nearly a decade.
