Community Health and Health Behavior MPH

Explore the actions of individuals, groups and organizations from a scientific perspective to promote health.

In the program, you will:

  • Engage in theory-based analysis of the determinants of health behavior
  • Learn how to design, implement and evaluate evidence-based interventions for public health problems in populations

Career Opportunities

As a public health professional with expertise in community health and health behavior, you will be involved with implementing policies and programs that promote behavioral change and enhance public health (for example, smoking cessation, increasing physical activity, improving diet or reducing risky behaviors). You will be prepared to work in a range of settings, including:

  • Local, state, national or international public health agencies
  • Health care delivery systems such as hospitals and managed care organizations
  • Nonprofit health agencies
  • Private research firms

Combined Degree Programs

MPH and Professional Degrees

We also offer combined degree programs—MPH/MD, MPH/MSW and MPH/PharmD—where you can earn two degrees in less time and fewer credits than each degree individually. These programs allow you to integrate a prevention- and population-focused approach to health with your respective medical, social work or pharmacy education.

BS/MPH Program with the College at Brockport

For College at Brockport students, we have a collaborative BS/MPH program with the college which allows qualified students to complete the equivalent of three years of undergraduate study at Brockport and complete two years of graduate study at UB to earn both degrees.
