Research. Application. Collaboration.

Biostatistics faculty engage in theoretical, methodological, and applied statistical research which is often, but not exclusively, motivated by collaborations with researchers at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences as well as other health science researchers at UB and other universities. We participate in ongoing projects in medical informatics and bioinformatics, cancer research, maternal and child health, research on addictions, and epidemiology. While our research projects span a wide range of topics, our departmental research foci are the areas listed below.

Research Foci

Molecular Recognition in Biological Systems

Knowledge of the molecular basis of biological processes is of central importance to the understanding and treatment of disease and the design of new therapeutic interventions.

Extreme Events

In the current world climate, the development of effective research in mitigation and response to extreme events is critically important. A distinctive strength of this group is its potential to bring together groups which have not traditionally interacted with each other, thus affording the possibility that truly unique research programs might emerge.
